Tygris Commercial Finance Group Inc. hired four executives for its corporate finance business: Patrick Dowling, senior managing director, aerospace and defense finance; Edward Stolarski, senior managing director, energy finance; Ron Kubick, senior managing director, restructuring finance; and managing director Frank Galle, risk.

Dowling was a managing director and general manager of CIT Leveraged Finance - Transportation. Before that, he was a managing director and industry leader for aerospace and defense at GE Commercial Finance. Dowling spent 22 years with GE. Stolarski was a senior managing director, energy head of FirstLight Financial Corp. He spent 16 years with GE before that. Kubick was head of U.S. strategic finance at Barclays Capital.

Galle was a managing director and CRO of the restructuring finance group of Merrill Lynch & Co. He was previously a managing director and co-head of the restructuring finance group of GE Commercial Finance. Galle also worked at Bank of America Corp., J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., Ernst & Young and Goldman, Sachs & Co.

On July 1, Jeffrey Lane will become CEO of Modern Bank. Lane hails from Bear, Stearns & Co., where he was chairman and chief executive of the asset management group. Previously, Lane was vice chairman of Lehman Brothers Inc., chairman of Neuberger Berman Inc. and vice chairman of Travelers Group and its subsidiary, Smith Barney.


Thomas Weisel Partners LLC hired Jason Moran and Ralph Sutton as managing directors focused on healthcare. Robert Nabholz was hired as a managing director covering telecommunications services for investment banking.

Moran and Sutton join from Piper Jaffray & Co. and Bear Stearns Cos., respectively. Moran works from San Francisco and Sutton is in New York. New York-based Nabholz was a senior managing director at Bear.


In New York, RBC Capital Markets appointed Paul Zingarini as managing director and head of secondary loan trading, and Richard Rothschild as a managing director in the global syndicated finance sales group.

Zingarini joins from Citigroup Inc., where he was a managing director in the high yield, distressed and loan trading desks. Rothschild spent more than 20 years at Citigroup.


Ramius Fund of Funds Group LLC tapped Vikas Kapoor, a former managing director at Arden Asset Management, as a managing director and head of risk management. He will also be a member of the investment management committee.

Earlier, Kapoor was managing director of Deutsche Bank AG's absolute return strategies group, where he also focused on risk infrastructure and technology for both the single manager and fund of funds business.


Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis LLP and Carolinas law firm Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman LLP will combine on July 1. The merged firm will have about 1,700 lawyers in 28 offices in the U.S., Europe and Asia. It will retain the K&L Gates name.


Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP named Carol Johnston as co-chair of its Los Angeles trusts and estates practice alongside Abby Feinman. Johnston has been a partner with the firm for two years; Feinman spent the last 12 years at Katten Muchin.


In San Francisco, Bradley Bugdanowitz joined Goodwin Procter LLP as a partner in the business law department. He focuses on private equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions. Previously, Bugdanowitz was a partner with Latham & Watkins LLP and a member of the corporate department.


International trade lawyer Michael Sherman was hired as a partner in Venable LLP's Washington office. Sherman was a partner at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP. He was also a longtime partner with Collier Shannon Scott PLLC, before that firm's 2006 merger with Kelley Drye.


Eric Jackson, an intellectual property, commercial, and employment litigator, joined Jenner & Block LLP as a partner in Washington. He comes in from Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi LLP.


Arnold & Porter LLP announced that intellectual property litigator Beth Parker will join the firm's San Francisco office as a partner. Parker practiced with Bingham McCutchen LLP.


Haynes and Boone LLP added Mark Mathews to its energy and power practice group as a partner in Houston. Mathews arrives from Adams and Reese LLP.


Sills Cummis & Gross welcomed Anthony Argiropoulos as a member of the litigation practice group. Argiropoulos joins from Fox Rothschild LLP in Princeton, N.J., where he was administrative co-chair of the Princeton litigation department.


Alvarez & Marsal said Matthew Comerford joined its business consulting practice as managing director and a leader of the customer solutions team, based in New York. Most recently, Comerford served as practice leader for the strategy and transformation practice at BearingPoint Inc. in New York.
