MichaelZuponMovers.pngLast week in New York, Carlyle Group tapped Debra Pedersen as managing director of global leveraged finance, responsible for investor relations and fundraising. Pedersen joined Carlyle from Plainfield Asset Management LLC, where she was a managing director. Earlier, Pedersen was a managing director at U.S. Trust Co., where she was head of a team in the family wealth management practice. She held positions at J.P. Morgan Investment Management Inc. as an energy analyst and at Morgan Stanley in corporate finance.

Bloomberg News, citing three sources, reported that Michael Zupon, Carlyle's former head of leveraged finance in the U.S., has started his own private equity-focused advisory firm, Sound Harbor Partners LLC. Zupon (pictured) joined Carlyle from Merrill Lynch & Co. in 1999 and left in July. The report said he co-founded New York-based Sound Harbor with Michael Cerminaro, a former managing director in BlackRock Inc.'s private equity group.

MF Global Ltd. appointed Paul Farrell as global head of foreign exchange. From New York, he oversees FX teams in London, New York, Chicago, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney. Farrell worked at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. from 1973 to 2008 and was head of several FX sales and trading teams.

Nomura Holdings Inc. expanded its fixed-income division in New York. Deutsche Bank AG's Peter Hornick joined as head of fixed-income sales, Americas. Arang Varadhachary, also from DB, and Jock Jones, from Barclays Capital, became co-heads of global credit products for the Americas. Earlier, all three worked at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.

Hornick joined Deutsche Bank Securities Inc.'s institutional client group in November as a managing director and head of credit sales for North America. Before that, he was global head of the CDO group at Lehman, where he spent six years.
