Bank of America Merrill Lynch said Martin Friedman will join as managing director and co-head of Americas life sciences investment banking alongside Chris Seiter. Based in New York, Friedman will report to Charles Ditkoff, managing director and head of Americas healthcare corporate and investment banking. To date this year, Friedman (picture) advised Warner Chilcott plc in its $3.1 billion acquisition of Procter & Gamble Co.'s pharmaceutical business; Merck & Co. on the sale of its 50% stake in the Merial animal health joint venture to partner Sanofi-Aventis SA for $4 billion; and on the initial public offering of Mead Johnson Nutrition Co., Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.'s infant formula business.

At Credit Suisse Group in New York, Friedman oversaw East Coast life sciences banking and led mergers and acquisition advisory assignments and capital raising for clients in pharmaceuticals, generics and emerging biotech. He was also global head of pharmaceutical M&A and equity collaborations at Novartis AG, and spent 11 years at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. in New York as a principal in the healthcare investing private equity division.
