Posted on September 30, 2009 12:00 AM

J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. named Jes Staley (pictured) chief executive of its investment bank. Steve Black, co-CEO of the investment bank, will become its executive chairman. Staley, who was head of asset management, reports to Black. Staley will continue on the operating committee. Mary Callahan Erdoes, CEO of the private bank, will succeed Staley as the CEO of asset management and join the firm's operating committee.

Bill Winters, co-CEO of the investment bank, will leave J.P. Morgan. In a statement Winters said he was looking forward to his "next professional challenge."

Staley began his career at J.P. Morgan in 1979 and worked in the investment bank for 20 years. From 1980 to 1989, he worked in the bank's Latin America division, where he was head of corporate finance for Brazil and general manager of the Brazilian brokerage firm for eight years. He was one of the founding members of J.P. Morgan's equities business, which began its extension into investment banking in the early 1980s.

Erdoes joined J.P. Morgan in the private bank in 1996 as head of fixed-income for high-net-worth individuals, foundations and endowments.

UBS named Jimmy Neissa and John Wall as global co-heads of the investment banking division alongside Rick Leaman. London-based Neissa was chairman of mergers and acquisitions, while New York-based Wall was head of proprietary trading. Leaman was sole global head of the investment banking division since former co-head Alex Wilmot-Sitwell was promoted in April, along with Carsten Kengeter to co-CEO of UBS Investment Bank.

UBS said that over the next few months Leaman will become chairman of its investment banking division and focus on client coverage.
