Consumer deals catch fire in Brazil

Published June 28, 2011 at 4:00 AM

"The private equity investor that spends time in Brazil and gets to know medium-sized $50 million to $200 million Brazilian companies is going to find some gems to invest in," says Thomas Bonney, founder and managing director of CMF Associates, in The Deal magazine's special video series, Globalization of Private Equity, sponsored by Merrill DataSite. Bonney recently conducted an informal survey of dozens of private equity firms and tells The Deal magazine that "consumer-oriented opportunities are going to be significant," as will manufacturing and distribution deals within Brazil, particularly as the country prepares to host the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016. For more on Brazil's evolving investment opportunities, read "Hot Brazil."
