Corporate Dealmaker Forum Highlights: Sun Capital's Gary Talarico on distressed investing

Published October 24, 2008 at 3:48 PM
Sun Capital Partners Inc. raised $6 billion last year. That was four times what the distressed investor raised in its last fund and it did so assuming the bubble would burst. According to managing partner Gary Talarico, "That has proved to be more true than we ever dreamed." Still, Talarico (featured in the current issue of The Deal) told Suzanne Stevens at the recent Corporate Dealmaker Forum in New York that there's a mismatch between value expectations and the price at which Sun Capital can buy a company and make a decent return. He expects we will reach an equilibrium late this year or early in 2009.
