Media deals heating up, but private equity players absent

A scene is heating up again, with some big sponsors trying to exit mega-deals. Univision Communications Inc.'s sale has long been rumored, but the company is trying to downplay near-term exit expectations. Elsewhere, the Weather Channel is expected to hit the block. But PE firms aren't going to be bidding on either, and will likely leave the sales to strategics. Now, there are questions whether PE firms will spend time on any more media transactions, with some spectacular blowups in LBO shops' rearview mirror, as well as industry shifts that could make some sectors go secular.
