At The Deal's M&A Outlook 2009 conference, Paul Parker, managing director and chairman and head of Global M&A at Barclays Capital, explained that M&A is difficult right now because it's hard to pin down a valuation on a company due to market volatility. This is leaving most industries full of companies, which might have at another time sold off assets, struggling with critical-care situations and restructuring.
