Strategic acquisitions are fueling tech M&A in 2010, which is up more than 90% from a year earlier, says Ira Cohen of Updata Advisors, an investment bank that specializes in information technology M&A and tracks deals in the sector. CA Inc.'s March acquisition of Nimsoft Inc. for $350 million in cash--10 to 11 times revenue by Cohen's calculation--is a "good example of the kind of value that is very strategic," he says.
