Cisco Systems Inc.'s classic mantra, "R&D equals M&A" is making a comeback, says Eric Gebaide, managing director of technology

Indeed, Thomson Reuters and the National Venture Capital Association recently reported that in the first quarter of 2010, venture-backed M&A exits averaged $180.2 million, 21% percent higher than the total average disclosed transaction value for all of 2009.
