Gordian's Peter Kaufman on Blackstone IPOs

Published October 26, 2009 at 8:49 AM
Blackstone Group LP (NYSE:BX)  isn't the only private equity firm eying the IPO market. Fortress Investment Group LLC (NYSE:FIG) took railroad operator RailAmerica Inc. (NYSE:RA) to market on Tuesday and saw the share price drop 6% (The Deal Pipeline subscription required). A handful of other PE-backed firms have also gone public in the past three months. In this edition of Inside The Deal, Peter Kaufman, president of the investment bank Gordian Group LLC, says PE firms are looking for exits and the stock market rally has made IPOs an attractive option. What's not clear is whether the investors are ready for the highly leveraged portfolio companies that PE firms may be shopping. See the video below or download it at iTunes. - Suzanne Stevens
