Online education a hotbed of dealmaking

Published April 12, 2010 at 3:37 PM
"Online education businesses scale very rapidly and they are very profitable businesses," says Amy Errett, a partner at Maveron LLC, the venture capital firm founded by Starbucks co-founder Howard Schultz. "The markets reward that." Maveron backs several online education startups, including Altius Education Inc. and Livemocha Inc. and, most recently Latimer Education Inc., which is developing an online college aimed at African Americans and raised $1.25 million last month. In The Deal's video interview, Errett talks about the sector's healthy exits, including last year's IPO of Bridgepoint Education Inc. and Blackboard Inc.'s acquisition of Angel Learning Inc.
