The good, the bad and the ugly of PE in Asia

Published July 11, 2011 at 4:00 AM

Private equity firms are "leveraging the relationships that their portfolio companies have in their manufacturing facilities in China and Southeast Asia" in order to "understand in a complete manner how to source product and material from Asia," says Thomas Bonney, founder and managing director of CMF Associates. In this video interview with The Deal magazine, Bonney, who informally surveyed dozens of private equity firms, explains how these firms are looking to Asia as an end market to boost product sales, and he speaks about the bureaucratic and regulatory hurdles they encounter in BRIC countries like India. For more on the obstacles U.S. firms face in Asia, read "Rocky road to China." For more of Bonney's insights on emerging markets, watch "Consumer deals catch fire in Brazil." - Sarah Hashim-Waris
