Expect 'very healthy' private equity activity

Published August 8, 2012 at 9:59 AM

Adel Aslani-Far, co-chair of Latham & Watkins LLP's M&A practice, says that "confidence is a real issue right now" for dealmaking. Deal activity is down year over year, and Aslani-Far says it's because market volatility is making it "very hard for buyers and sellers to find a common ground on pricing of assets." Still, he is optimistic that we'll see more deals, predicting that private equity activity will be "very healthy." As for deal sizes, Aslani-Far says that "people have to recalibrate their expectations." Instead of $5 billion-plus deals, expect activity in the $1 billion to $5 billion range. - Katie Roof
