Activist Investing Today: Cooley's Brownridge on AI Activism

|
Published: October 9th, 2026
Cooley partner and activism defense group chair Sean Brownridge discusses how artificial intelligence is reshaping shareholder activism.

Cooley LLP partner Sean Brownridge joined the Activist Investing Today podcast to discuss how artificial intelligence is influencing shareholder activism.

Activists, Brownridge noted, use AI to analyze potential targets, process corporate disclosures and develop campaign theses more efficiently. Investors are increasingly challenging companies over their own AI strategies.

Campaign themes include using AI to cut costs, redesign workforces, improve products and customer experiences, accelerate revenue growth and support capital returns. Activists also are scrutinizing whether boards have sufficient AI and technology expertise.

Brownridge expects investors to increasingly examine returns on AI spending and distinguish between companies benefiting from AI and those struggling to generate value. That scrutiny could fuel demands for management or board changes, capital returns, partnerships and M&A.
